Nanny Withafanny Wins Fox Valley
Redhot Series Final
After winning the $12,000 Incredible Finale Series Final in late
December in 2:00.1 and finishing second in the first two legs of the Fox Valley
Redhot Series in January Bob Lems' Nanny Withafanny beat the 3-5 favorite Fox Valley
Perdito in the co feature $10,000 Fox Valley Redhot Series Final friday night (1/15/05) in
1:56.3. It was a wire to wire race with Dave Magee and Nanny Withafanny using the numoro
uno post to their advantage. I have one question for Bob is this the same horse that Ryan
had trouble getting by the grandstand at Cannon Falls on the 4th last year? Our
congratulations go out to you and your family and all your trainers out there in Canton
and good luck in the future.

Dave Carter has outstanding year with Crafty Sailor and Tattler's
Jet
Congratulations are in order to Dave Carter for an outstanding year with veteran
trotter, Crafty Sailor, an 11 year old gelding by Sailor Boy. Crafty Sailor broke a
68 year old record in Wisconsin at the Greene County Fair in Monroe, WI with a time
of 2:05 flat. Crafty Sailor also broke the track record at Wheaton, MN, winning a
Free For All that included pacers, with a time of 2:05.1.
But Crafty Sailor's accomplishments do not end here. He also trotted to a win for
owner driver / / trainer, Dave Carter in the Billings Amateur drivers competition at
Scioto Downs. The following is an excerpt from the USTA web site:
| Saturday,
September 11, 2004 - by Joh Maniz, for the Delvin Miller Amateur Drivers' Association |
|
| Monticello,
NY --- Usually the lead in all Billings releases is about what drivers were
victorious. However, theres a more important story here -- the presence of Crafty
Sailor. The veteran trotter, with
Wisconsin Dave Carter at the controls, scored his 18th victory of the year
when he won his Billings division at Scioto Downs on Thursday, September 9. With that
victory, Crafty Sailor became the winningest horse in North America.
After stalking Candacraigh and driver Bob
Lumberman Troyer over the entire mile, Carter waited until the top of the lane
to urge his trotter on. When he did, Crafty Sailor put it in another gear and got up in
the final strides and collared the pacesetter in a time of 1:592 and won for
the 18th time in 38 starts. V W Bug, with Ned the Hilliard Hotshot Hodkinson
aboard, finished third, two lengths behind the winner. |
While stabled next to the Carters at Wheaton, we observed this horse being harnessed
without being tied. Nick Carter, however, did have to constantly remind Crafty that
biting was not good ettiquette.
Torpedo Joe, another Carter horse, formerly raced in MN, has now gone in 1:55.3 and has
won over $13,000 for the Carters this year.
Congratulations are in order to Dave Carter for Tattler's Jet another former MN
competitor has won over $25,000 this year and who recently won the pacing division in the
Signature Series. Following is an excerpt from the USTA:
Tattler's Jet wins the Signature Series
Thursday, September 9, 2004 -
by Dave Schmidt, director, the Signature Series |
|
| Celina,
Ohio --- Tattler's Jet won in convincing fashion in 1:572 at Richwood, Ohio
on Labor Day, which clinched the Signature Series Pace title. Tattler's Jet's 102 points gives him a 30 point lead over the
second place horse, Dragon's Growl, who has 72 points.
However, second and third place are still up for grabs
because the horses currently second, third, and fourth are within only eight points of
each other, and the final two races will determine who will win the bonus money.
Tattler's Jet has been one of the mainstays in this
years hunt for the Signature Series Pace title. |

New York Sire Stakes dominate Yonkers' card
Saturday, September 11, 2004 -
by Frank Drucker, publicity director, Yonkers Raceway |
|
| Yonkers,
NY --- The final weekend of New York Sire Stakes preliminary action began on day night
at Yonkers Raceway, and 3-year-olds trotters
of both sexes did battle. The $174,014
Mount Vernon, for colts and geldings, and the $164,820 Mike Cipriani, for fillies, were
divided into a quartet and a trio, respectively. Proving that he does not discriminate,
driver Jeff Gregory was the staple among the state-breds, winning one Mount Vernon
division and sweeping the Ciprianis -- what a ladies' man.
Since the Mount Vernon went for a bit more coin, let's
start there. Gregory won the night's third "guy" event when he got up on the
money with the favored Victory Sir ($4.40) in 2:02, and matched that one's previous best.
The son of Sir Taurus, owned by Eric Williams and trained
by Terry Finch, angled from fourth -- third along the pylons -- in the $43,303 division
and out-gamed the pocket-sitting Tommy O (Greg Merton) by a head. It was his fifth win in
14 starts this year.
Trainer-driver Dan Daley guided R C Destiny the fastest
of the four Mount Vernon miles, going the distance in a life-best 2:002. The
Giant Hit gelding, co-owned by Robert Pergament and Ann-Mari Daley, won his $43,303
division, and held-off the division leader, Rapphappy Kash (Gary Gibson) by a head as the
4-5 ($3.70) favorite. R C Destiny, who went over the $100,000 career figure with the
victory, has now won three consecutive races after beginning the season zero for eight.
Omega Angel (Scott Mongeon) aired in his $43,303 New York
Sire Stakes Mount Vernon division. The Sir Taurus gelding, who set the local track record
for frosh trotting geldings last summer, drilled his foes this night in 2:003.
Dauntless Warrior (Steve Smith) finished second at 126-1, just less than seven lengths
behind. Omega Angel, trained by John Mongeon, Jr. for co-owners Vernon Devine and Doug
Morton, paid $2.80 for his fifth win in nine tries this year.
The $1.2 million New York Night of Champions will
be raced one week from Saturday, on September 18, on which eight, $150,000 divisional
finals will be raced for 2- and 3-year-olds of both sexes and on both gaits. |
